  1. I was all set to purchase this item but when I realized that I was being charged $120 in shipping charges I quickly changed my mind. You can purchase a new dehumidifier for that price. Check your shipping charges!

  2. We purchased this unit 1 year ago from a Home Depot. Worked great last summer in our basement. This year, the coils continuously ice up. Brought it into a service center (1 hr+ drive round-trip drive from my home) under warranty who told me the unit worked fine for them! The icing started up immediately again when I returned home. Another call to LG (over 30 minutes on hold), and I was told I’d have to bring the unit back for repair yet again and that a replacement would not be made unless a manufacturing defect was determined by the service center. They admitted to me there was no threshold for the number of times I’d have to take it in for service before I’d be offered a replacement unit. I’m off to buy another brand and will steer clear of LG products in the future.

  3. I bought this unit for $179 from the Home Depot. It had a 5 year warranty, so I felt good about that. It ran for 2 summers and when I turned it on this year it didn’t pull any water. I had to take it to a service center (my nearest one was about 45 minutes away, but is fortunately close to my work; you might want to check for the nearest service center before buying an LG product because I’ve heard they can be quite far away and that’s the only way to get service without shipping the item to them). It took the service center almost a week to check it out. Then, over another week later I’ve been hounding LG to get a resolution; I highly recommend their ONLINE CHAT since you can chat away while still doing other things. They’ve finally decided that it needs to be replaced and they said this should take about a week. Well, hopefully after 3 weeks I’ll get a replacement unit–kinda disappointing considering that my basement is getting quite damp in the meantime. I was at a Home Depot recently and saw an LG dehumidifier of this same size and it only has a 1 year warranty now–no big surprise if you’ve read any reviews of LG dehumidifiers–they all sound like they die around 18 months to 2 years…. If you’re looking for a unit right now, Costco has a Danby 60 pint unit that is a Consumer Reports Best Buy. I believe it’s $179.99 DELIVERED. I think it only has a 2 year warranty, but if you use an AmEx Costco credit card that would be extended to 3 years. HAPPY DEHUMIDIFYING!

  4. I live in a hot humid climate and run a dehumidifier on each level of my cottage for the last 8 years. When they work, they are great. You can never get the same brand more than 2 years in a row. No one will fix them. I leave them on auto and they are piped to outside. Various “things” go wrong

ie/ quit drying at all, quit piping out water, quit completely. Mostly the latter. The first one I had (same unit, another name) lasted almost 5 years. The last 5 years they are averaging 12-18 months. There doesn’t seem to be any other choices …really frustrating.

  5. I have had this dehumidifier for about 5 months. Within 2 days after using it in my basement it considerably reduced the musty smell, and within a week the smell was completely gone. It removes a lot of moisture from the air. I was emptying the water once a day. However I bought a hose and it drains into the floor drain so that’s no longer a hassle.

I agree with the other reviews that this thing is pretty noisy. I had it in my basement and could hear it in my bedroom on the main floor. What I noticed was that most of the noise comes from the rattling of the removable bucket caused by the motor when it is running. One way I found to reduce the noise was to hook a hose to the humidifier and then tape up the seam between the main unit and the removable bucket. It’s a cheap fix and is not very aesthetic, but no one will see it in my basement. I now only hear the the low hum of the motor which is fairly quiet and doesn’t bother me.
